Indian navy cheif's gamble

Indian navy cheif on south china sea
Indian navy cheif Devendra Kumar Joshi on south china sea
Indian navy cheif has said that India is ready to deploy it's navy in the troublesome south china sea if a need arises to protect Indian economic interests there(read oil blocks owned by ONGC there). However,India's NSA Shiv Shankar Menon has said that a general comment made by him was exaggerated and reported by the media.South China sea is a dangerous place to venture ,I would like to say it to our country's navy cheif.Indian navy in the event of any crisis can control two important choke points in the Indian ocean namely Strait of Hormuz(through which half of world's oil supply passes) & Malacca straits.India has just activated a brand new naval station(Bazz) in the strategically located Andaman & Nicobar islands.India can block China's oil import from the middle east.India has only 16 operational submarines though much more are in construction,we are of no match to the chinese submarine capability.India has the best anti-ship cruise missile in the world(Brahmos) which can take out China's ships in no time.India will also get P-8 Poseidon(advanced anti-submarine warfare tech) soon from the US.India will also field nearly three Carrier Battle Groups(CBGs) in the near future. We sure have the capability to control  the choke point's in the Indian Ocean,But I doubt whether Indian navy can operate in the South China sea  with logistic problems involved.
India is not a claimant in the South China sea dispute so there is no need for India to enter the South China Sea dispute.India and China can be more allies than enemies. An article in the state run global times of china has said that India and China can rule the waves together.China & India are the world's second & fourth(will become third soon taking over Japan) largest economies respectively in terms of PPP.Both India & China have trade in billions of dollars.India was described by US secretary of defense Leon Panetta as the 'lynchpin' for Obama's Asia pivot.US may aspire India & China at odd's since it serves their strategic interest of containing China. It will be a nightmare of the western world to see India & China together. Both India & China has about 40% of the world's population.Imagine a war in which half of the people on Earth is involved. It is necessary for India to be a partner to US to get access to high technology & trade but India cannot be a US pawn.In the long run, I wish India & China could resolve their bilateral issues through dialogs rather than wars. For more information like these subscribe to my blog for email updates.
